One of the most lucrative sports bets you can make is a parlay, but unless you employ some kind of betting strategy it can also be one of the toughest bets to actually cash-in on. In simple terms, a parlay is when you combine two or more picks into one single wager. The plus side is that the top online sportsbooks as featured on SportsBettingStats.com offer some very attractive odds for groupings of two to even 16 teams. Our favorites are Bet365 for non Americans and 5Dimes for US players. The down side is that the more teams you add to a parlay play the higher the odds are stacked against you to win.

Sometimes it can be hard to pick even a single winner so the catch to winning a parlay is that you have to win every one of your picks. The only exception is in the case of a PUSH when two teams tie with the closing point spread. In that case, you total parlay is reduced by one team.

A parlay is a great wager if you’re looking to win a big amount of money from a small stake and is among the most popular type of wager placed by sports bettors. How do you win a Parlay Bet? To win a parlay wager all individual legs must win. For example, if you have five teams in your parlay bet then all five individual bets must win. The Problem With Parlays. We’ve already mentioned one of the biggest problems with parlays; they are hard to win. The truth is that it’s hard to win consistently using any type of sports wager, so this is certainly not a problem that’s unique to parlays. 22 hours ago  If you fancy having a bet on this parlay, a $100 bet with BetMGM will return a huge $1050, a great return for a bet looks like it should win with a bit of luck. Risk Free First Bet up to $600. Leicester City winning the Premier League in 2015 was one of the biggest upset wins in this history of sports. Before the season had started they were 5000/1 underdogs but someone was willing to take a shot on them to win it all. A bettor placed a wager of £ 100 and walked away with £200,000.

For example, if you put together a four-team parlay at 12.28/1 betting odds and one of your plays ends as a PUSH, it would be reduced to a three-team play at 6/1 odds.

An MGM Resorts sports book bettor won $250,000 Monday night when the Lions beat the Giants 24-10 to close out his $8,500 five-team parlay. The unidentified bettor hit the first four legs of the.

The betting odds for parlays using point spreads is fixed and based on the total number of teams you group into one bet. Betting parlays for MLB games is an attractive option since you will be working off money line odds as opposed to a point spread that is commonly used in sports such as football and basketball. When betting money lines you only have to pick the straight-up winners, but keep in mind that your payout odds will be based on the actual money line odds for each of your picks. The top online sportsbooks should have a parlay calculator on their website where you can enter the actual money line for each of your individual picks to provide a projected payout of that particular parlay if you win.

Whether you are betting money line parlays for baseball and hockey or point spread parlays for football and basketball, there are a few betting tips and strategies that you should always employ to give yourself the best chance to win. First and foremost, you need to properly handicap each game as an individual pick before grouping them together in a parlay bet.

For example, if you decide to go with a two-team NFL parlay at 13/5 odds, you should probably take the time to breakdown three or four games to come up with your top two plays. Winning parlays is all about your overall confidence level for each one of the picks you decide to group together. If you are not absolutely in love with each one of your picks individually, then do not risk your money by grouping them together in a parlay.

A second tip is to avoid the temptation of parlay picks of three or more teams. You may get excited over the 91.42/1 return you would get if you hit a seven-team parlay, but this is nothing more than lottery ticket when you start calculating your true odds of actually winning all seven games.

Finally, make sure you have some kind of set money management system in place if you are going to be betting parlays. There is a reason why sportsbooks are willing to give you such a generous return on multiple team parlays. The odds are already stacked in their favor that you are going to lose one of your picks even in a two-team wager. Parlays should always be reasonable unit plays that will not break the bank if you lose.

Parlay pat

One BetMGM user threw down a meager $10 wager on a wild, 11-team parlay across multiple sports over the weekend and, miraculously, it hit.

Look at this beautiful madness:

  • Georgia Tech moneyline

  • Arkansas State moneyline

  • Appalachian State under

  • North Carolina under

  • Iowa State under

  • Army under

  • Duke +20.5

  • UTSA moneyline

  • Coastal Carolina moneyline

  • Yankees moneyline

  • Rockets-Lakers under

A $10 wager combining those 11 outcomes yielded a win of $152,341.28. Not too shabby.

College football underdogs, wild finish

Those college football moneyline bets came on significant underdogs, too. Georgia Tech (+12.5) and Arkansas State (+14.5) were both double-digit underdogs, but pulled off outright road wins over Florida State and Kansas State, respectively. Coastal Carolina was also a road underdog, but it blew out Kansas 38-23 late on Saturday night.

The three college football under bets all hit fairly comfortably, but the UTSA moneyline was a close call. Extremely close.

UTSA beat Texas State 51-48 in double-overtime in what was the most-exciting game of Week 2. The Roadrunners stormed out to a 24-7 halftime lead and appeared to have a victory sealed when Rashad Wisdom returned an interception 81 yards for a touchdown to put the Roadrunners up 41-28 with 3:24 to play. But that was when things got wild.

Texas State managed to force overtime by scoring two quick touchdowns. The second was a 91-yard punt return by Jeremiah Haydel that looked like it was going to put TSU ahead. Instead, Alan Oroza hooked the extra point and the game went to overtime with the score tied at 41 apiece.

Oroza’s rough afternoon only continued. After the teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, Texas State settled for a short field goal to open double-overtime. Oroza missed again, this time from just 20 yards out. UTSA then clinched the victory with a field goal of its own.

A brutal outcome for Texas State was a big win for our parlay hero.

MLB, NBA close calls

And if nine college football picks wasn’t enough for this bettor, his MLB and NBA wagers both came down to the wire. A 10th-inning, walk-off sacrifice fly by Luke Voit gave the New York Yankees a 2-1 moneyline win over the Baltimore Orioles while the under 217.5 narrowly hit in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals between the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers.

The final score: 119-96. That’s a total of 215, 2.5 points under the total.
